Mark Benevolent Fund Presentation
National Blood Bike Dedication and Handover
Many of you will recall – particularly those who participated - that in May 2017, a Mark Benevolent Fund Charity Walk took place along the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Walk in London. The magnificent sum of £437,934 was raised.
The Trustees of the Mark Benevolent Fund wanted to give something back to the Brethren of the Provinces who had given so generously, and decided to invite all blood bike charities in England and Wales to apply for funding for a new vehicle. All applications were granted and to date the M.B.F has sponsored 16 Blood Bikes and 10 Blood cars.
Most blood bike charities come under the umbrella of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes (itself a registered charity), and their aim is to provide out of hours transportation services for local NHS sites in the movement of blood and human tissue. Their services are given completely free by volunteers.
To coincide with the Blood Bikes Awareness Day, and to celebrate the important services the blood bikes provide, the national handover and dedication of the bikes and cars took place at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham on Friday, 17th August 2018.
Approximately 260 people attended this memorable event in the adjacent National Conference Centre. In attendance were the Assistant Grand Master RW/Bro. Stephen Davison, accompanied by the Grand Secretary RW/Bro. Ryan Williams, the Grand Director of Ceremonies RW/Bro Frank Spencer and many administration and support staff from Mark Masons’ Hall.
The Mark Provinces were very well represented by a number of Provincial Grand Masters, Deputy Provincial Grand Masters and their Executive. The Bucks Mark Province was represented by RW/Bro David Tremaine, Provincial Grand Master, and W/Bro Keith Bristow, Deputy Provincial Grand Master.
The Ladies, Gentlemen, Brethren and Members of the Blood Bike Charities were welcomed by the Grand Secretary and received a stimulating introductory video presentation. The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes representatives outlined the exceptional work of the Association and thanked the Mark Benevolent Fund for their massive generosity.
The Grand Chaplain, V.W.Bro. Revd. Bruce Harry gave a short address and a moving dedication of the Blood Bikes and Cars to the National Association of Blood Bikes.
Following an address by R.W. Bro Tony Morris, Deputy President of the MBF outlining the work of the Mark Benevolent Fund, the vehicles were handed over to the appropriate Blood Bike Charities to warm and generous applause.
The Grand Secretary closed the Meeting and a splendid buffet lunch followed.
Many of the Brethren afterwards toured the magnificent National Motorcycle Museum.
